Mission

Woodbury Baptist Church provides many opportunities for service. We consider the workplace and community to be the most important places where service, witness, and ministry can take place. Through the many service opportunities offered at WBC, many of our people have been drawn to make service a regular part of their life.

Mansion de Luz is our sister church in La Guacima, Costa Rica.  It is our mission to help them realize their dreams of being a light in a difficult and impoverished community.  We sent a mission team of 19 people there in 2008 and have brought their pastor to visit us.  We provide financial support for special projects in their community and to our American Baptist missionaries serving in the region, Gary and Mylinda Baits and Ruth Mooney.

Loves and Fishes has become an important tradition of serving the hungry of St. Paul. On the 3rd Monday of every other month, volunteers from WBC grocery shop, cook, serve, and clean up for persons in that neighborhood.

The Christian Cupboard, a local food shelf in Woodbury, is supported financially, through food donations, and by volunteers who staff this weekly ministry to the hungry.

Project Home is a ministry to the homeless in the Twin Cities. WBC partners with other churches in the Twin Cities, a week at a time, to staff an overflow shelter from 5:00 PM until 7:00 AM each day.  We provide a snack to arriving families, assist with homework, play with the children, and talk with the youth and adults.  Two volunteers spend the night, and provide breakfast in the morning.

The Star Tree is a ministry of love and care for children whose families are in need of the food services of the Woodbury Christian Cupboard. Members and friends buy Christmas gifts for these children.

Operation Christmas Child is a ministry that provides boxes of gifts for children to be sent around the world as part of Samaritan’s Purse.  Each Christmas WBC members fill boxes with toiletry items, toys, crafts, and hard candies.  Members also serve at the local packaging center to prepare boxes for shipment.

Mission trips sponsored by the Mission Board offer opportunities for individuals and families of all ages to be involved in work/mission trips. Recent trips have included youth mission trips to Michigan, and Ruiz and Tecate, Mexico, and trips for all ages to Costa Rica, the Murrow Indian Children’s Home, Kentucky, Appalachia, and Montana.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a ministry to members and friends of our church going through difficult times. Shawls are knit by volunteers who pray, as they knit, for the person to whom the shawl will be gifted.

Feed My Starving Children is a Twin Cities ministry to create packages of nutritious food to be sent around the world to locations in need.  Our youth pay a visit to the packaging centers a couple times each year.

Caring Hearts for Homeless People is a ministry where WBC parishioners provide medication, hygiene items, and other supplies to be given to the homeless.

Refugee Resettlement has been a big priority for WBC in some years. We have resettled a couple families in our history, and helped them to settle into new life in the United States.

Woodbury Baptist church supports a number of American Baptist colleges and seminaries, as well other American Baptist missions.
