Mark: The
Story of Jesus Messiah, Son of God
This
series explores the story of Jesus Christ and his
earthly ministry. It follows the narrative of Jesus'
life and ministry including his journey to the cross.
His time on earth was, at the time, quite
controversial and it upset the religious authorities
causing them to take the radical step of crucifixion.
The story of Jesus is relevant to us today because it
is a story of redemption and hope that applies to us
as much today as it did in the first century.

Classics
Class - How
do people face change when it threatens their comfort
zone? This book, “Who Stole My Church” by
Gordon MacDonald, is a fictional story of a church in
transition that is faced with change. This class will
be interactive as we examine how the issues raised in
the book apply to WBC. Come expecting to be challenged
as we seek intergenerational understanding.
Teacher:
Pastor Jim Winter, Rm #4
Novels
- The letter of James has been said to be the most
practical book in the New Testament.
Yet James’s book has also been highly
controversial: his writing is unstructured, refers to
Jesus only once, lacks theology and contains heretical
remarks (about works).
We will discuss these issues along with
James’s clear and practical instructions for the
Christian life.

SEARCH
COMMITTEE UPDATE
A Note from the Search Committee
Your Search Committee has
been on a journey which began last January, when the
Transition Team turned over to us the information they
had gleaned from the congregation regarding our
church’s character and priorities.
We took this information and transferred it in
detail to the ABC’s pastoral candidate forms.
The material was then entered into the national
ministerial database.
This enabled us to find those pastors who were
open to a move and whose strengths most closely
matched our priorities.
Throughout this process
we have been acutely aware that only six of us were
charged with the awesome task of representing some 200
people. At
each step we have prayed that the Lord would make very
clear to us, the person He had in mind for our church.
While we waited for pastoral profiles to arrive, we
assembled packets of print and media materials to be
used as an introduction to our congregation.
In April we received from
the ABC approximately 40 profiles of pastors who
matched our priorities and would be open to a move.
An initial letter was sent to ones whom we
selected. In addition, we received personal
recommendations for two other pastors, and began
contact with them.
It should be mentioned here that at each step
in the process, the committee was in agreement, which
we felt was confirmation of God’s guidance.
We are all very different, but God has used
each of us as we have brought our contributions to the
committee.
We agreed to conduct
phone interviews with three candidates and we came
away from that experience feeling that any one of the
three was a strong possibility.
We continued to pray and before we could
arrange second interviews, one of the three men called
us to say that he felt the Lord was leading him to
remain in his present pastorate.
After second interviews
we still felt very positively about the two remaining
candidates, and began to plan for a visit to each of
their churches. After
phone conversations with several committee members,
where additional concerns were expressed, one of the
candidates withdrew his name, leaving us with one.
Bob Klatt and Paul Nelson visited his church in
October and had a very positive visit.
It is interesting to note
that our candidate’s initial response to our first
inquiry was, “I have not entertained the possibility
of moving at this time, so I would need to be
convinced that this was the Lord’s leading.”
Now, he and his family are eager to visit with
us and have opened themselves up to a call.
God has led both them and us in our journey and
we, as a committee, are pleased to recommend the
candidate for the position of pastor at
Woodbury
Baptist
Church
